True Truce: New Direction

Interior Jedi Temple

OBI-WAN:  Anakin, really.  I thought I told you
to get some rest, relax, try meditation.  I certainly don't want
to argue further about going after Count Dooku anymore today.

ANAKIN:  I'm going after Ahsoka.

Solemn sigh.

OBI-WAN:  I share your grief, Anakin.

ANAKIN:  Grief?  How can there be any grief?  She isn't dead.

OBI-WAN:  This is another kind of grief, Anakin.  You know that too well.

A Tusken's cry.

OBI-WAN:  She made her decision.
As a Jedi, you have to learn to let her go.

ANAKIN:  She didn't mean anything to you.

OBI-WAN:  Anakin!

ANAKIN:  The Jedi failed her.  I failed her.

OBI-WAN:  You could not have
gone to greater lengths for her.

ANAKIN:  And what about you?  You stood with
the Council when they cast her out.

OBI-WAN:  Anakin...

ANAKIN:  Don't try to excuse that to me.

OBI-WAN:  I regret that I was wrong.  But I saw the evidence and I believed it.
I believed it.  It wasn't politically motivated as you seem so determined to think.

ANAKIN:  Then you never knew Ahsoka.

OBI-WAN:  Wasn't Barriss above reproach?

Anakin turns his back to him.

OBI-WAN:  I don't claim to have the same attachment
that you and she did.  That's something of my point.
But she wasn't my Padawan.  And I do care for her.

Obi-Wan lingers on the words.

OBI-WAN:  Where do you expect to find Ahsoka?

ANAKIN:  The Separatists.

OBI-WAN:  That should allay the public's fear of treason.

ANAKIN:  She'll want to steer clear of the military,
but she made friends there through Padme.  And it's an
opportunity to get as far from the Republic as possible.

OBI-WAN:  I see.  Then how do you propose we follow her?

ANAKIN:  By taking the same route she did.  I'll find out
what transport she used to get off Coruscant
and where it was headed.

OBI-WAN:  Now remains the all-important question.
Who shall command our forces?

ANAKIN:  I can rendezvous with them once
I found Ahsoka.

OBI-WAN:  Really?  Who's to say you won't
be discovered?  Which is the most likely result.
Aside from being able to take care of herself,
Ahsoka has the advantage of not being the face
of this war.  A luxury you won't have, my friend.

ANAKIN:  It is the will of the Force that I succeed.

OBI-WAN:  The will of the Force?
I don't believe I heard you ever make
such a claim before.  How did you
arrive at this conclusion?
Especially only since I
saw you this morning.

ANAKIN:  I took your advice and went
to the gardens to think, Master.

OBI-WAN:  I shall have to be more careful
of my proscriptions in the future.

ANAKIN:  So are you coming?

OBI-WAN:  Was there ever any doubt?
Far be it for my to question
the will of the Force.

Obi-Wan pats Anakin's back in good humor.
